ARRL North Texas Section

Welcome to the website for North Texas section of the American Radio Relay League.  The North Texas Section is part of the West Gulf Division.

What is the ARRL?

The ARRL is the national association for Amateur Radio in the United States.  Founded in 1914 by Hiram Percy Maxim as The American Radio Relay League, ARRL is a noncommercial organization of radio amateurs.  The ARRL is defined by five pillars: Public Service, Advocacy, Education, Technology, and Membership.

How is the ARRL organized?

The ARRL is divided in to 71 administrative sections across the United States and its territories.  The ARRL membership in each section elects a Section Manager every 2 years.  The Section Manager is responsible for managing the ARRL Field Organization programs in their respective sections.  The Section Manager appoints coordinators or section staff to help manage the programs.

Harvey Gains Hurricane Strength, Hurricane Watch and VoIP WX Nets Activate

In its August 24 1800 UTC update, the National Hurricane Center said Harvey was “rapidly intensifying.” It advised that preparations along the middle-Texas coast be rushed to completion.” The storm was packing maximum sustained winds of 85 MPH. It was located about 335 miles southeast of Corpus Christi, Texas, moving north-northwest at 10 MPH.

Nathan Bailey N5REL Appointed Section Technical Coordinator

North Texas Section Manager Jay Urish W5GM set out to fill the vacant slot when he took the reins in April.  He reviewed the qualifications and availability of several amateur radio operators in the section, and decided Nathan N5REL was the best fit for the position.
